Just this May 2017, OPPO Philippines and HWM Philippines conducted a user trial program for the OPPO F3 Plus and selected five participants from Facebook as testers. Luckily, I am one of those chosen testers out of over a hundred people who have joined the online screening. We were then given an OPPO F3 Plus unit to be reviewed and tested for two weeks and publish our reviews through our Facebook accounts. And here are the summary of my own test and review of the OPPO F3 Plus.
The box includes the phone, quick start guide/manual, jelly case, SIM ejector tool, micro USB cable, wall USB charger and earphone.
Design and Build Quality
At first glance, OPPO F3 Plus can already impress anybody with its stunning large display. It’s one of the biggest OPPO handsets I’ve seen so far boasting 6-inch 1080p display. At the lower portion of the screen is a fingerprint reader. But what attracts me most is the presence of the dual selfie cameras positioned on top of the front screen.
Design-wise, OPPO F3 Plus is simple yet built with cleanliness and elegance. It has a sleek metal body. It is even an upgrade from its predecessors, carefully polished and now equipped with Corning Gorilla Glass 5, making the phone’s screen super strong and durable. At the bottom are the well-aligned speakers, headphone jack and USB port. I can see that OPPO is really giving quality assurance even to small details. On the other hand, the perfectly rounded edges and smooth surface of OPPO F3 Plus is perfect to my grip. I never had the difficulty handling the device as it fits well to my hand. Even though the unit is stunningly large and has a soft-touch finish, I can still comfortably hold it and is not slippery while the metal unibody feels very sturdy.
Overall, when it comes to design and build quality, OPPO indeed did not disappoint me. And it can give other high-end smartphones run for their money.
The F3 Plus runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. The implementation of OPPO’s ColorOS 3.0 in the F3 Plus is a refreshing update and it includes some features unavailable in Google Android such as customizable gestures for screen off, screen on, communication, a security centre, lock screen magazines, options for long screen shot, eye protection changing to a warmer color temperature, FTP Server and others. Interesting to note is that Apple users can easily identify that the ColorOS looks similar to iOS made by Apple. But all in all, ColorOS is fairly smooth and functional.
I also see no issues navigating through the home screen and opening up the notification shade. They are fluid and snappy. Touch response is smooth. And another positive comment I can give is that the settings are well organized, core applications like contacts and dialer are easy to use and the smartphone also supports certain gestures such as drawing an O to start the camera, double tapping the screen to unlock it and so on which surprisingly work rather well.
The notification shade is split into two separate screens, with one listing your notifications and the other housing quick toggles for Wi-Fi, 4G, Bluetooth and so on. But, this is what I have to say, I did not like it that whenever you pull down the notification shade, the quick toggles are always displayed first and you have to swipe left to access the notification screen every single time you want to see a notification. They should have made it that you can see the notifications immediately. Anyway, it’s just a few of of the cons among the phone’s many great features.
The OPPO F3 Plus is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 SoC powered at 1.96 GHz and paired with the Adreno 510 GPU. It also comes with 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage which can be expanded via a microSD card (of up to 256GB) and a 4,000mAh battery. This combination gives me steady browsing of the web and using my social media accounts like Facebook, Instagram, etc. with ease and without any issues. On the connectivity front, the device supports 4G LTE, VoLTE, GPRS, 3G, 2G, GPS/A-GPS, Glonass, Bluetooth 4.1 and microUSB for data transfer and charging. A missing aspect though is the USB Type-C port which I know is very important is this generation. I also tried to play some heavier game like Asphalt 8 and surprisingly, the device did not show any signs of stutters while switching between multiple apps and loading games run smoothly. Because of the phone’s large display, watching movies and gaming are some of the things I could definitely enjoy more with the F3 Plus. On another positive note, the Oppo F3 Plus performs very well when it comes to thermal management, with the device not getting too hot even during heavy gaming and intensive use.
And when it comes to benchmarking, OPPO F3 Plus scored well with 92389 when I tested it via AnTuTu.
Talking about software features and performance, I will rate OPPO F3 Plus an 8 (1 – lowest, 10 – highest) as I see that it still has more room for upgrade and improvement. Performance-wise, it’s reliable. But it’s major cons is that it still runs on Android Marshmallow when it could have been upgraded to higher Android version.
The rear camera of the OPPO F3 Plus is a 16-MP shooter which utilizes a Sony IMX398 sensor with an aperture of f/1.7.
I liked the idea that OPPO F3 Plus rear camera has an autofocus feature that I have achieved an amazing “bokeh” shots without effort. I just focused the camera on the subject and it automatically blurred the background and instantly you can have super vivid photos like these one.
OPPO F3 Plus rear camera takes images in their truest and most accurate color tones that you don’t have to enhance the captured photos before sharing them to your social media accounts. It is also doing great in capturing the overall scene of landscape photos that they looked like art installations.
And for a travel junkie like me who loves to pose and at the same time capture the beautiful background, OPPO F3 Plus rear camera’s extra-wide f/1.7 aperture is a capable camera and done a great job. It does not only highlight the subject but also gives emphasis on the backdrop.
While OPPO F3 Plus’ rear or back camera is already fantastic, you will be surprised with its innovative selfie cameras. The front of the phone contains not just one but two equally amazing selfie cameras. The bigger one is a 16-megapixel shooter with an f/2.0 aperture while the smaller one beside is an 8-migapixel camera with a 120-degree field of view. These two front-facing cameras make this phone perfect for both selfie and groufie.
Are you a selfie-lover? OPPO F3 Plus is for you. Thanks to its upgraded Beautify 4.0 mode that captures clear-cut facial contours with adjustable tone, shadows and light.
No action camera? No worries! OPPO F3 Plus has a secondary selfie camera with 120°wide-angle lens that can capture amazing wide shots.

As Entertainment Device
If you’re into media consumption, OPPO F3 Plus is a treat. It performs well when watching movies, playing games and browsing social media accounts. It’s because of the vibrant display, close to reality colors and excellent brightness. I tried opening multiple apps including movie streaming and the device is capable of doing multi-tasks and didn’t show any sign of slowdown even when I am switching between apps. It is swift enough thanks to its Snapdragon 653 processor.
Now back to its usability as a medium for watching movies, its large size is really a plus factor. I have watched an entire movie indoor and the experience is like watching it in the big screen. I also tried it outdoor and in direct sunlight and surprisingly, the viewing experience is still not a disappointment. Even the single speaker grill handles well the audio quality. Though turning the volume higher and up to its maximum level, the quality became less impressive and distortion is noticeably present. Nevertheless, my overall experience in watching movies through the OPPO F3 Plus is better. Besides, I have found out that using the headphones remedies the distortion and the volume just got right. In the same way that using headphones when watching movies is recommended, listening to music through the OPPO F3 Plus can also be better in this way.
On another positive note, OPPO F3 Plus has an Eye Protect Mode. So even if you’re spending long hours with the phone and your eyes are glued to the screen while watching movie in dark conditions, your eyes can still relax and even protected.
When it comes to being an entertainment device, OPPO F3 Plus might not be the perfect one as it has some downside especially in the audio quality when turned to its maximum level. It’s maybe because of the absence of the dual stereo speakers. However, it isn’t a disappointment either. In fact, the large screen and the vibrant display are enough for me to fully enjoy the movies both indoor and outdoor. Indeed, OPPO F3 Plus is a capable entertainment device.
P.S. Video above is a trailer from Youtube. Notice the clarity of the graphics. Audio isn’t bad either. The large screen of OPPO F3 Plus really gives a better movie watching experience, whether it’s action, drama, horror, etc.
We’re down to our final task which is to review the battery life of the OPPO F3 Plus. And for me, this is the most challenging part because you need more time to test the battery life of the phone. If I could have more time, I would have a series of testing like how much battery consumption if I isolate the phone into making calls, browsing the web using 3G, and playing videos. But due to lack of time, I will review the battery life in its standby time or during my real use of the phone. Surprisingly, OPPO F3 Plus battery life last longer than any other phone. Thanks to its massive 4,000 mAh battery. But first, one of the amazing features of the OPPO F3 Plus battery is its fast charging. It only took less than one hour to fully charge the phone. This is due to the bundled 5V-4A charger with VOOC Flash Charge that comes free from the package. It is the fastest charging so far I have encountered among other phones I have tried. Likewise, the VOOC Flash Charge prevents the phone from overheating despite quick charging.
And back to my experience in using the phone, the battery last longer, too. Fully charged, it can last more than 24 hours when not in heavy use. And with 20% left, I can still enjoy this phone more with another several minutes because it has Low Power Mode which you can enable when prompted.
This cutting edge power saving optimizations is really a plus factor for me as it makes sure that I can still have extended phone usage time. The long lasting battery is indeed what I just needed so I can have longer time with the phone in streaming videos, browsing the web, playing games, streaming music, making phone calls and most especially when I’m on the go and on my adventures. With these, I can take many selfies, pictures and videos I want without worrying about “low batt moments”.
With the positive impression I get form the OPPO F3 Plus, I had this sudden feeling that this phone is the one for me. As a travel enthusiast, I need a smartphone that can accompany me in my future travels and adventures. My photo sessions with the beautiful spots in the Philippines as background deserve to be snapped only with the great cameras of the Selfie Expert phone. And OPPO F3 Plus is more than just a selfie-centric phone. It’s not the best and not the perfect one yet, but it is the OPPO offering that made me say “I’ll switch to the Selfie Expert!”
